PATH LESS TRAVELED, PT. 2
In yesterdays post we talked about the “path less traveled.” What I forgot to mention was that this topic idea was inspired by a poem I read a while ago.
TBT, I rarely read fiction… let alone poems.
This time it’s different.
It’s not only deep (with a profound message at the end), but also short and to the point. You might get a kick out of this.
Down below is said poem by Robert Frost.
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;Then took the other, as just as fair;
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.I shall be telling this with a sigh
–ROBERT FROST, 1916
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, And I-
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.
As you can see, it’s basically about “the Ultimate Choice” you have in life—that is at least my personal interpretation of this piece of art.
What is “the Ultimate Choice?”
This.
- Do you want to take the path ordinary people take (the majority) and be ordinary?
- Or, Do you want to take the path less traveled extraordinary people take (the minority)… and, thus, become extraordinary?
Notice that I said “become.”
No one is born extraordinary.
We choose to become that way.
How?
By, first, making the decision to do so.
By, second, committing to the decision.
And by, third, following through on that decision EVERY SINGLE DAY. By taking action no matter what; by doing WHATEVER it takes.
Yes, this includes facing our fears, getting rejected, being ridiculed by others, and the list goes on.
It’s HARD.
And that’s why most people don’t do it.
But, you and me, we are not “most people.”
We are different.
We think differently.
We think (and act) for ourselves.
It’s very rare these days.
