If something bad happens to you, it’s—almost always—not your fault.
It’s not your fault if your computer suddenly breaks down and you lose important files (unless you’ve hit it with a hammer before the issue occurred).
But…
…It’s your responsibility.
It’s your responsibility to look for a solution to fix the problem.
It’s also your responsibility to learn from your mistakes. In this case, to back up your files next time.
Don’t expect anyone else to do it for you.
Before I digress, remember:
No one is going to do it for you.
According to Jordan B. Peterson, clinical psychologist and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, one of the reasons why especially young men feel they lack meaning in life stems from a lack of responsibility.
Pick your damn sacrifice.”
–JORDAN B. PETERSON
Whether you like the term “sacrifice” or prefer to call it “responsibility,” remember that you always give something up.
Daily discipline and taking responsibility for your life lead to freedom.
However, instead of missing out, you are doing the exact opposite.
By giving up excessive drinking, you become healthier, save money, and gain clarity.
In the long run, you’ll feel freer and better about yourself.
The same applies to your finances.
Saving and investing your money wisely leads to financial stability and independence… while over-spending everything you’ve just earned (on stuff you don’t need trying to impress people who don’t matter) leads to debt and—quite literally—slavery.
You don’t own your stuff, it owns you.
You need the next paycheck to survive.
You cannot afford to lose your job.
You are trapped.
And on and on and on; short-term pleasure is oftentimes long-term pain—and vice versa.
In the end, you decide whether the pros outweigh the cons. Or not.
In conclusion:
It may not be your fault, but it’s your responsibility to take responsibility for whatever happens in your life. To become solid as a rock; someone that others—people who matter to you—can rely on.
Otherwise, you will always blame others, give up power and control over your future, and live a miserable existence.
Choose wisely.
