One of the biggest reasons why many network marketers don’t become successful lays not only in the fact that the majority of marketers is using ineffective strategies, but also in not taking action because of feelings of anxiety and fear.
In particular, they fear rejection from other people.
But it doesn’t have to be that way! Read on to understand what I mean here.

As network marketers we hear it a lot: “Go out there and chase the NO’s! The more NO’s you get, the closer you come to the YES’s!”
“Oh, really? How has that worked out for you so far?”
I mean… chasing the NO’s is only half true. Of course, this business isn’t for everyone. It’s said that on average only 5% will join you, while 95% won’t.
Because only a fraction of the people you talk to finally join your business, you come closer to a YES! the more people “reject” you and say NO! – in theory.
Theoretically, because the question is: “Do you really need to face rejection in the first place? What if there’s a better way?”
Well.. there’s a better way, indeed.
Asking yourself questions like these can literally transform your business and life. Why? Because oftentimes we make it all way harder than it actually is.
One thing many people in their MLM business overlook – and it’s very important so stay with me here – is defining their target market.
To whom are you marketing your opportunity?
If MLM folks say “everyone!”, I say “no one.”
Think about it. Isn’t that true? You have to be very specific here. Target marketing is crucial to your MLM success. You got to know who your ideal client is (business partner and customer) and what THEY need and want.
Otherwise, you’re attracting tire-kickers, opportunity seekers a.k.a. people with a “get-rich-quick” or “overnight success” mentality, and all other kinds of people not interested in network marketing.
These are the people you DON’T want!
What you DO want are highly targeted people. People who’re committed, who’re willing to do whatever it takes, and who’re patient because they know it takes time to build a real business, a real asset. Right?
Right.
So, let’s move on.
Another reason why so many marketers have a fear of rejection is because they don’t lead with value and feel uncomfortable pitching their business opportunity.
This goes all back to the first point mentioned above:
Using ineffective marketing strategies.
What I mean by this is that – though the most important skills in network marketing are MARKETING and SALES – we’re taught by our company and upline that we simply share our product with family, friends, and others.
It’s all about sharing.
The problem here is most marketers believe they should…
- Pitch their company’s products and business opportunity up-front whenever they can to everyone who they come across.
- Convince people why their company and products are the best in the world and they must buy and join them.
Urg… This is exactly what leads to rejection!
Why I know this? I’ve been there. I used to “build” my business the same way using the same “strategies”.
But can you really avoid rejection, Mario? And how do you do this?

You got to lead by value. Period.
You may think you’re in the direct sales business, but you really aren’t. Pay attention and take a note: YOU’RE IN THE PROBLEM-SOLVING BUSINESS.
People don’t want to buy into a business opportunity, they want to achieve financial and time freedom so they can do, be, and have whatever they desire.
In order to do so, they seek something else than your business opportunity:
They need guidance, information, and training.
And that’s what you’re really SELLING. You provide them with SOLUTIONS to their problems. You SOLVE their problems.
In short:
It’s YOU and YOUR ABILITY to get them from where they’re to where they want to be.
Nothing more, nothing less.
In order to do so, you need to position yourself as an expert, or a leader if you prefer that term (you may also say authority).
How you do this?
By increasing the value in yourself, by constantly improving yourself and your skills. Making mistakes and messing things up is necessary. Love it or hate it. This is life…
I personally like the term to “fail forward” because that’s what it exactly is when you do it and don’t sabotage yourself afterwards.
The good thing is that this way of doing business eliminates unnecessary rejections completely. This is also known as Attraction Marketing respectively Education Marketing Strategies. You’re now leading by value and solutions instead of pitching your offer right in their face.
MLM Mindset Tips: #2 From Rejection to Effective Self-Improvement
Without stepping outside your comfort zone and instead remaining at where you’re right now, you can’t demand any positive change in your life.
You have to put in some work yourself if you want to get real results.
If you want to be a leader, be a leader. It’s dead simple.
Deal with problems, take responsibility for your life, business …
As long as it doesn’t kill you, it can only make you stronger. A great way how I learnt to face my fears and getting comfortable being uncomfortable is simply doing it.
I know it always sounds easier than it is. But you got to do it anyway, or your vision is simply not inspiring to you, at all. Because no matter how long you’ve been around the network marketing industry; you have to understand that luck isn’t involved.
It’s all about consistency and adding tons of value.
Too many people are in the business for all the wrong reasons. They want to make quick money and are only interested in themselves.
As a business owner, however, you have to do the exact opposite. You must develop an abundance mentality, which leads to you adding value to other people’s lives. You have to come from a place of giving instead of taking.
If not, you’re constantly operating from a place of LACK and SCARCITY.
You’re chasing people down the street and begging them for joining your business opportunity. You come across as needy and frustrated – not the best way to attract quality people to you!
Before moving on to the next section, know this one:
No one is going to make or brake your business except of YOU.
You’re in charge and only you determine where your business is heading.
MLM Mindset Tips: #3 A Few More Facts about the Fear of Failure and How to Overcoming Fear
Rejection is never ever about you*. It’s very unlikely that rejection is ever meant to be personally toward you because either the other person isn’t interested at all, which is completely fine, OR it’s not the right time yet.
Hence, the follow-up process is essential. It takes 5-7 exposures on average to seal the deal (sometimes even +12).

“But why do we talk about this, Mario? Didn’t you say rejection is eliminated?”
Yeah, you’re right. But only unnecessary rejection. Trust me, there’ll always be situations in your life when you get “rejected”. The question is how do you respond to it? Does rejection strengthen or weaken your self-image of who you really are?
Further, rejection gives you feedback on where to improve, which areas need enhancements. Trust me, after a while you’ll see that it’s great to face your fears.
Once you did it for a few times and you see your progress, you and your MLM business become much better and you’re able to free yourself from social norms and standards.

However, make sure to choose inspiring challenges that are in alignment with what you want.
If you ask me, I recommend attending OFFLINE networking events, too, because they make you feel more confident in sharing your USP and message VS. talking to strangers in the streets or hiding behind a computer screen.
The only time I make an exception for the latter one (talking to strangers) is if you want to boost your confidence…
You do this best by not assuming anything and being fully present & rewarding yourself for taking action afterwards.
Still afraid to step outside your comfort zone and take action?
No worries… I’ve been there too and know exactly how you feel. I know how it feels to desire a specific thing, but not being able to get it… because of fear and doubt.
One thing I know now for sure: There’s nothing more ineffective, unproductive, and a waste of energy and time (and money) to START-STOP while taking action.
What I mean here is to define a goal, map out a plan and, then, take action half-heartedly. Why? Because besides rejection MOMENTUM is another good buddy of yours.
And by START-STOPPING you’ll never really build up momentum, which in turn will leave you frustrated and ready to QUIT.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been creating without momentum.
No surprisingly, it’s also one of Donald Trump’s 10 success principles.
MLM Mindset Tips: #4 How to Get over the Fear of Rejection and Fear of Failure
I want to give you a few ideas here on how to overcoming fear; especially, how to get over the fear of rejection.
First, you really need to embrace rejection.
It’s your friend. It’s your constant companion and it helps you become your best self and be of greater service to others.
Second, in my past, I was the shyest kid in high school you could’ve ever imagined:
I was afraid to…
- speak up
- stand up for myself
- share my opinions with others freely
- talk to girls
- be authentic and true to myself
I didn’t even feel afraid to present and discuss my written home work in front of others because of possible criticism…
… resulting in even lower self-esteem and self-worth. How I learnt to free myself from all that bullshit in my head? Read on.
I made a conscious DECISION. A decision to CHANGE MYSELF!
Somehow I knew I was worth more, much more!
I knew I was playing extremely small just trying to please anybody else – an impossible endeavour!
Third, here’s what you do:
Get CONSCIOUSLY clear on what’s the worst case scenario and then do it anyway. You’ll see that it’s most of the time just all in your head.
Your mind is playing tricks on you to “prevent” you.
However, it also “prevents” you from all the good stuff out there; such as big opportunities to grow your business or becoming your most authentic self.
Let me give you an example to illustrate this point a bit further here:
As I said before, I was afraid to talk to girls back in high school. For a better understanding, we’re talking about ATTRACTIVE GIRLS here.
You know the ones who aren’t only physically attractive, but also have a phenomenal personality.
When I first started doing some exercises to get more comfortable with attractive women, I felt completely uncomfortable. Though, I should ‘just’ approach six attractive women in different situations during the day and ask for the direction of the nearest post office.. I couldn’t do it!
I was terrified. It sounds weird to me nowadays. But there I was. AND IT WASN’T BAD, EITHER. Accepting rejection was a “skill” I had to learn. Like a muscle that had never been used.
And here I have to admit: My biggest improvement in this area happened once I decided to face my fears and DO IT ANYWAY. I was terrified because I had all that self-talk of “What If …” But once I decided to be fully present, just looking at what IS vs. what my brain ASSUMES… I got the job done. I talked to more than 80 attractive women a day, asking for more than just directions.
And I felt AWESOME AFTERWARDS!
I don’t tell you all this to brag, but to show you what’s possible once you face your fears and do it anyway.

By now, you’ve hopefully gained a greater understanding on how to use rejection in your favour – and not against you. You can see that rejection is your friend. Hence, you see that it’s not the question “how to get over the fear of rejection and fear of failure?”, but “how to learn from my mistakes and move on to become a better person?”
