My Big Stupid Social Media Fail

July 28, 2016

I used to hate Facebook.

Social media in general.

Now i LOVE it.

Why? Because I’m a private person.

Wait, wait, wait. Isn’t that a contradiction?

Yes and No.

Look: Privacy is dead.

It’s DEAD.

And there’s no way to revert that reality.

But why else did I hate it, and now love it?

I simply don’t like to “show off.”

I don’t like to brag.

I don’t like to post pictures of me eating, nor me having a shit.

And I naively thought social media was all about THAT.

Because that was the only thing I saw out there.

People doing anything they can to get attention.

Boy, was I wrong!

I was so darn closed-minded and prejudging.

No joke.

Remember: I wasn’t even a member yet! So, how could I know?

Well, I reluctantly joined back in August, 2011 (just before my 18th birthday).

Reluctantly because my soccer team at that time founded a Facebook group to organize our entire schedule and to keep in touch.

You could say I was literally forced to join FB.

Fortunately.

Because I wouldn’t have joined otherwise, and would’ve missed all the good stuff. It’s true there’s a LOT of bad stuff out there on the web 2.0 …

…However, the power it gives you is unbelievable (if you use it wisely!).

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Back then I used Facebook for nothing, really.

Today it really IS a blessing for me.

For example:

Since I traveled abroad and—in the process—turned my life around, social media has become a very powerful and practical tool.

It has given me the opportunity to easily stay in touch with like-minded, successful, and inspiring people from all over the world.

It has also given me the opportunity to nurture relationships, learn more about them, and find inspiration for my own life.

But the most powerful thing still remains being part of a quality group.

It’s simple:

If you want to improve your life, you got to surround yourself with inspiring people.

It can’t be overstated: Groups are GOLD.

(In real life AND on social.)

As the famous Jim Rohn once said,

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Word.

That’s why, nowadays, I run my own group.

Because I know the importance of that quote; it’s EVERYTHING.

I simply know from experience how crucial it is for you to be surrounded by uplifting, inspiring, positive people who support you along the journey.

Why?

Listen.

No one has ever done (or achieved) anything “alone.”

Without a support group of people who held me to higher standards (and continues to do so) … I would have never undergone this life-changing transformation. And I’m thankful for this forever.

In the end, we’re all in this together … so my question to you is this:

Why not help each other out? Why not do it together?
