—SUMMARY—

How to Listen Better

How to Listen Better

There are three people in this world when it comes to listening—type 1, type 2, type 3.

Type 1 is the “Amateur Listener.”

Type 2 is the “Average Listener.”

Type 3 is the “Master Listener.”

In the following we’re going to focus on becoming the latter, a type 3 “Master Listener.”

Let’s go!

—INSPIRING INSIGHTS—

  1. PRESENCE. Be present. It’s the #1 power for charisma and confidence.
  2. 80/20 PRINCIPLE. Focus on listening (80% of the time) over talking (20% of the time).
  3. EMPATHY. Reflect back what you just heard; make them feel understood. Ask really good questions. Go deeper.
  4. TIMING. Know when it’s time to interrupt people, and how to do it. NOTE: This is advanced stuff. Interrupting people is not a recommended strategy to build rapport/trust/likability/etc. Especially not, when you’re just starting out on your journey of becoming a “Master Listener.”
  5. INNOVATE. Keep experimenting, keep mastering, keep MOVING. Don’t stop. Find new ways. And focus on the fundamentals (step 1-4). Master them, yes, it takes time. But it’s time well spent.

And, as always:

Enjoy the Journey,
