—SUMMARY—

How To Build Habits and Make ‘Em Stick

So, How do you exactly build habits (and make ’em stick like glue)?

Great question!

And, here’s my short answer:

One habit at a time. Focus on ONE habit.

Well… there has to be more to it. Right?

Yep, there’s more and that’s…

…What we’ll cover today.

Check out the summary below, or watch/listen to the podcast above.

—INSPIRING INSIGHTS—

How to Build Habits and Make 'Em Stick

  1. QUICK RECAP: Last week, we briefly introduced the importance of building habits and making ’em stick. The main focus, back then, was on the big picture stuff—setting meaningful goals and having a deeper purpose (a “mission”) in your life.
  2. ON HABITS. Now, once you get these two things in place—you have (1) a mission, and you (2) set meaningful goals that align with your mission—you need a system. Namely, “habits.” Habits make sure you stay on track, short-term and long-term.
  3. HOW TO BUILD HABITS: Determine what you need to do, on a consistent basis, so you reach your goals faster. If you, for example, want to become a better writer, you gotta write daily. (And even if you just want to publish a book, you still gotta write a certain number of words every day.) Make sense? Taking consistent action is the key that will eventually set you free. Next up, you’ll learn how to make your new habits stick so you keep going. No matter what.
  4. MAKE ‘EM STICK. Here’s the *secret*: Focus on one habit at a time, and only move on to the next one after “successful automation.” It’s said that it takes about 21 days to form a brand-new habit; scientific research shows that it takes way longer; whatever, everyone is different. Discover what works best for you.
  5. HERE’S WHAT I DO: Make a list of all the habits you need to succeed; then determine which one is the right for you to build first. Begin and keep track. Every single day, check: Have I already practiced my new habits today? If not, take action.
  6. FINAL WORDS AND REMINDER. Yes, it sucks. The good news? The beginning is almost always the hardest part. It gets easier from time to time—just like the first time you learned to walk; you fell and fell and fell on your butt … over and over and over again … and, suddenly, you walked like a champ. You can do this!

And, as always:

Enjoy the Journey,
