What’s the Law of Averages?
Let’s start off this article with a brief definition of the Law of Averages, a concept that became popular in MLM once introduced by former business philosopher and world-renowned entrepreneur Jim Rohn:
“If you do something often enough, you’ll get a ratio of results. Anyone can create this ratio.” – Jim Rohn
According to Jim this means that “even if you are new in sales, you can make up in numbers what you lack in skills.”
If you’re, for example, currently recruiting 1 out of 20 people you can still beat an experienced sales rep who closes 10 out of 20 people he meets. How?
You need to increase the number of people you talk to.
In case you have never heard from him, Jim Rohn was also a motivational speaker, mentor to successful people like Anthony Robbins or Brian Tracy, and endorsed the network marketing industry. He joined his first MLM company as a distributor in 1955.
Many famous Jim Rohn quotes out there still apply to today’s network marketing industry, like for example: “The fortune is in the follow up.” (that’s another topic)
However, times have changed.
It’s important to remember that what worked well for him and others is now more than 50 years old (when network marketing was in its infancy).
This doesn’t mean the “law of averages” doesn’t work. It does work, indeed!
The more you talk to other people, the better you get at it (e.g. Prospecting).
And the better you get at something, the less you need to do it to maintain.
Applying the Law of Averages and the Missing Piece
Let me share with you briefly what I did in the beginning of my direct sales career. This may help you get clear on how you want to run your MLM business:
When I got started in network marketing I didn’t know what it’s all about, so I used traditional network marketing strategies. It goes from making a list of all the people you already know (your warm market) to going out and prospect people (your cold market).
In the beginning, I chose cold market as I hadn’t a big warm market to prospect
(I was new to Australia and, even before, I wasn’t much socially active).
When I talked to strangers in networking events and in everyday situations, I had poor skills. So, I increased the amount of people I talked to.
As a result, I didn’t only get better at talking with people and presenting my business, but also improved my conversion rate over time; I got my ratio of results. Therefore, I needed less people to approach in order to get the same results over time.
Unfortunately, my business was still lacking of proper marketing.
For me, understanding the law of averages and applying it is a great way to improve your skills and grow personally.
In order to grow my business also, I had to work on my marketing because I didn’t want to go out and talk to people all day long just to get a constant flow of new leads.

It’s said that 95% don’t join your business.
Because 95% don’t join you, wouldn’t it be clever to have something to offer to these folks and make money if people don’t join you?
The Power of Using Attraction Marketing
Well, you have to offer something of VALUE to their lives.
Hmm… how can you do this?
That’s where Attraction Marketing comes in.
Basically, attraction marketing is leading people by adding value and educating them. Nowadays, if you type the term “attraction marketing” in a search engine like Google, you’ll find many results based on Online / Internet Marketing.
In reality, attraction marketing is a universal way to brand yourself appropriately, so you “attract” the right people to you. You aren’t chasing people any longer, they seek you out.
Well, that sounds nice. But how do I actually use attraction marketing strategies?
The best advice I always give people when they ask me about using attraction marketing is having a marketing system in place like My Lead System Pro (MLSP).
Anyway I want to give you some of my personal advice now, so you can get started implementing some strategies immediately. Pay attention!
Offline and Online Attraction Marketing Strategies
If you want to build your business OFFLINE, I recommend you to do things that position you as an expert, who knows what he/she’s talking about. You can do this by giving your own seminars, becoming a public speaker, or something else where you give people value FIRST before ever presenting anything else.
In fact, educate them as much as possible, so they sell themselves on your business opportunity. If you decided to give seminars about health and nutrition (assumed you promote a health & wellness company), focus on education not selling.
Do something that leads to your offer, so your audience realizes that they need what you’ve to offer. That’s also another reason why people often talk about educational marketing; you lead with value, you lead by educating people.
On the other hand, if you decide to build your business ONLINE using attraction marketing, here’s what you’re going to do: As I said before focus on educating and adding value to your prospect first. You can do this via blogging, creating helpful YouTube videos, …
… it’s nearly the same thing as stated above in the offline section, except for one thing: You’ve real LEVERAGE and SCALE by using the Internet.
Your blog, social media account, and your complete content have one thing in common: they’re working in your favour 24/7 and are reaching every person who has a computer and access to the Internet.
If you talk to a barista at Starbucks you share your message with 1 person.
If you, however, share the exact same message on your blog, it reaches millions of people for years! It doesn’t matter if they’re in the USA, Australia, Canada, or Germany. They could also be somewhere completely else. As long as they have access they can find you. You create something once (blog article, video, audio, chart, …), and it serves people over and over again.
One thing you’ll need for sure (regardless of whether you build your business offline or online) is a marketing system. You need to have a system that sifts and sorts pre-qualified leads for you, so you can concentrate on more important tasks in your business (like building relationships with your following).
In my opinion, MLSP is the way to go.
