What Better Way to “Celebrate” Your Birthday Than This?

September 9, 2016

I usually don’t like using quotation marks in my writings, except it’s necessary.

And, here it is.

Why? Because I don’t like to “celebrate” my birthdays like most people do.

Nothing wrong with a big party and a lot of people.

It’s just not my cup of coffee.

It’s not meaningful to me.

So, I don’t do it.

If you missed it, lil context first.

Yesterday was my 23rd birthday—and you guessed it right:

I enjoyed it with a small, selected circle of friends and family.

That’s it.

We started my birthday on a quiet note at home … had awesome brunch in our garden … parted … met later for dinner at a local (and really excellent!) bar … and ended the day on a quiet note.

As you can see, some candles, more candles, and—of course—champagne.

Quiet birthday

That’s the way I roll.

Calm. Quiet. Grateful for every peaceful moment there is.

Especially on my birthday, where I don’t need a big party. Really.

Because what made my day were all the lovely greetings I received from friends all around the world (either in person, via email, phone, on social, and—yes—even the good old handwritten letter still works!).

And that’s just one of the reasons why I’m so damn grateful for life.
