Get back to what is important and meaningful—to you.
That’s the only way if you ask yourself, How to get yourself out of a funk.
No other way.
- Sure, you can spend hours beating yourself up for not following through.
- Sure, you can also listen to more motivational audiobooks for hours.
- Sure, you can do whatever you think brings you closer to taking action.
Or, you could just stop.
And take action, no matter what.
See.
You could stop all the madness and get productive. Right now.
What it all boils down to (why some people are hyper-productive; while others are described as “unproductive,” “lazy,” or “unambitious”) is this.
Success habits.
(Since I’ve written about building habits in previous posts, we won’t talk about building habits now. For that, search the blog. For today, this post simply serves as a crucial reminder to focus on playing the long game.)
If you want to be successful—whatever success means to you—focus on habits. Simple as that. Why? Because once you build a habit, you won’t need this awkward pushing yourself thing every single morning. You won’t need to “motivate” yourself… because you’re already motivated from within. Because you have something in your life that’s too important not to do.
A mission, a purpose, a passion, insert your favorite word for it. But you got to have it (to be motivated enough to build successful habits).
What helped me personally a lot is to see life as a journey; not as a destination. Still, I’m struggling from time to time to get shit done. That’s part of being human, I guess. So don’t be too hard on yourself for falling back down.
Last but not least, let’s end this post with an inspirational quote:
Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

Enjoy the journey,
