It was last Friday.
Back then, I just heard that Nico Rosberg, the reigning F1 world champion, retired from Formula One at the age of only 31.
I couldn’t believe it.
He had the best car, beat his team-mate Lewis Hamilton (who’s considered one of the best drivers in history), and …well.
Maybe he knows something we don’t.
Like leaving when you’re on top of the world. (And not too late, or doing a stupid comeback later on.)
Like focusing on the things that really matter (i.e. family, health, happiness, fulfillment, and some more).
Or something else.
Whatever…
There might be something beyond driving in a circle for Nico. I’m sure both his daughter and wife is going to love him even more for this decisive move.
Which reminds me of when I was growing up.
Though I never got to know my father’s father (my father neither), and my grandmother (his mother) died when I was four…
(…and some other stuff that, well, happened…)
…I’m SO grateful that my parents took care of me as best as they could (maybe even a bit too much, but you always err in life; no one’s perfect).
This means there never was a time where both of my parents worked full-time, at the same time. They really took care of me.
And yet, there are no guarantees for ANYTHING.
Because, despite all their efforts, I nearly ended up killing myself.
Why? I hated myself and my life.
For different reasons.
Anyway, it lasted seven years—with a LOT of highs ‘n lows.
Gradually it got better; I made progress.
Getting better and better, yet with VERY slow progress …and with LOTS of unnecessary trial and error.
Let’s say it this way:
I don’t regret a thang. I survived, and learned many things.
However, if I had to start all over again…
…I would do this:
Seek out—and learn from—someone who has already turned his life around, and is living the kind of life you want to live. Someone who’s “been there done that.”
There’s nothing more powerful.
