A Weird Way To Find Your Life Purpose

July 15, 2016

How can I find my life purpose?

You know, I read questions like these WAY too often.

And I’m tired of it.

Most people make this such a giant, gigantic burden in their lives.

But it really hasn’t to be that way.

Sure, we’re always doing our best to finding meaning and fulfillment…

…BUT overestimating the importance of “finding our life purpose” is nothing but a big excuse.

If we look in the mirror, we know it to be true.

Let’s face it:

It’s lame excuses like “I can’t live a purposefully-driven life right now, because in order to do so I need to have accomplished X.”

Or, “In order to live my purpose I need to be more successful.”

It’s the same as “I approach her [imagine random, attractive girl] when she is alone.”

So, when’s that happen if she happens to be around her best friends all the time? (Speaking from my dark, insecure past here.)

Here’s the #1 lesson learned from the last ten years of MMMontreal’s life:

Sometimes in life, you need to just do it (think Nike).

I repeat.

Sometimes in life, you need to JUST DO IT. No matter what it is, or how scared sh*tless you are. Just do it.

Stop analysis paralysis, and give it a heavy kick in the a$$.

Seriously. It’s not been doing you any good (and never will!).

See, you’ll never get to your life purpose if you don’t take action (and, instead, wait all day long for perfect conditions or sudden inspiration to hit you).

It will NEVER happen.

What to do?

You need to redefine it as something you can start living TODAY—that’s it.

That’s the key.

You don’t find your life purpose, you choose it for yourself.

And here’s another thing:

Most of the time, your life purpose is choosing you more than you do.

Too abstract?

Let me give you a real-world example from my own life:

For me, my current life purpose (“current,” because your purpose is constantly evolving; that’s BTW another reason why it’s better for you to redefine yours as something YOU can live and express TODAY) is the following:

The Purpose of my life is to serve others by showing up as the most passionate man I can; to add tremendous value on a consistent basis; and to make things happen by growing personally and mastering life skills—every single day.”

I could also say:

I help people rediscover the best within themselves, so that they can live a more meaningful & fulfilling life too.”

And I do.

See, I live BOTH of them at the same time.

Simultaneously. (To sound more sophisticated. Well … kind of.)

Long-term AND short-term game.

The second one is more specific, the first one’s more general.

How I EXACTLY found my life purpose?

Well, explaining all this would go beyond the scope of our blog post here.

What I CAN, however, share with you for now, is this:

When I first started out on my quest to finding my life purpose, I put this statement at heart:

My current life purpose is to find my life purpose.”

Sophisticated, isn’t it?

But I’ve done it. Eventually. It all fell into place. Why?

Because I forgot about finding my life purpose AND focused on growing myself; developing essential life skills; helping others; being present and mindful in the moment, grateful for life itself; making the best out of today; having fun … and a bunch of some other cool things you can do, too.

Most importantly: I faced my fears, acted in spite of them, and surrounded myself with uplifting people 24/7.

Been through all that, I know it can be tough. Especially, if you don’t know where you’re heading. The only thing that’s left for me to say to you:

Trust the process.

Enjoy it even.

You’re going to live this life ONE SHOT. (#YOLO, if you will. I won’t, because I don’t have enough swagg apparently.)

Anyway, keep calm and march on.

You’ll get there.

Finally:

Whatever you do…

…Choose something you can start living TODAY.

Decide today to make your life about something that IS meaningful TO YOU.

And, as always:

Enjoy the Journey,

P.S. No idea where to begin? Don’t give up! Feel free to model your life purpose after the examples I gave you above.
