Don’t know your passion?
No idea what you’re passionate about?
No clue whatsoever?
Here’s the solution.
Chances are you may have an abstract passion.
An abstract passion? What’s that?
Let me explain.
I struggled with finding my own passion for years, because I was looking in all the wrong places. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way (and doesn’t have to be that hard—it really doesn’t). We just need to acknowledge what we’re already passionate about, but don’t acknowledge yet.
My question to you:
“When’s a time in you’re life when time flies by and lo-and-beyond, it’s five hours gone without your realizing it? What (abstract) activity is that?”
Following a few examples of an abstract passion you may be having. I’m referring to what Sally Hogshead, founder of How to Fascinate, calls “[…] your anthem: The tagline for your personality” and her amazing research.
- Out-of-the-box thinking
- Focused execution
- Astute details
- Perceptive observations (my abstract passion)
- Careful analysis
- Expressive ideas
- Selective Research
Et cetera…
And, no, “wishful thinking” doesn’t count as an abstract passion :)
Last but not least, another hint if you don’t have a thing to be passionate about.
That may be it. Your passion; to find out what you’re passionate about. To be passionate about the journey of finding your journey, and enjoying this process—every single day, anew.
