Some things just don’t make no sense.
Especially when it comes to self-help advice.
Look.
Some self-help “advice” out there is so generic that it simply doesn’t help anyone. But that’s just ONE of these “don’t make no sense” things I want to share with you today.
In fact, it gets worst. Why?
Because I’ve created my personal “Flop Seven” of self-help advice.
Uh-oh…
(WARNING: While this advice might be well-meant, it’s just horrible FOR YOU. So continue reading on your own risk. I’m serious.)
Welcome to the Flop Seven:
- Gurus who tell you to “fake it till you make it.” Nothing could be further away from the truth. (At least, if you want real success.)
- Chanting affirmations all day long HOPING that your life magically changes—without putting in the time and effort necessary.
- So-called “experts” telling you that it takes years to change or make progress in life. If that was true, I wouldn’t be here.
- “You Already Have All The Answers, Inside.” Oh, really? So why aren’t you living a more meaningful and fulfilling life yet?
- Only think positive and avoid all negativity from your life. Want to lose your mind and perspective on life itself? Go ahead and do just that.
- People who haven’t accomplished anything besides being a “public speaker” advising “You Can Achieve Anything You Put Your Mind To.” What about becoming a formula one driver if your family is financially poor? A pro golfer? A tennis star?
- Leaders are readers. Yes, but there are certain factors that make them different compared to most people. And—surprise!—it’s not reading.
And the list goes on, and on, and on.
The good news:
I’ve WAY more important (and interesting) things to do in my life that keep me from listing more examples. Thank goodness!
(BTW, listing more examples here would probably make no sense either.)
Bottom line, don’t give advice unless you know what you’re talking about.
Unless you’ve “been there done that.”
