You’re Watching the Olympics, Too?

August 11, 2016

Today’s a great day for Germany.

I mean, some gold medals here, some silver medals there …

…Okay, and some missed podiums.

That’s how I looked at it, let’s say, three years ago.

Back then, I was thrilled every time a favorite athlete (or team) of mine (like Kimi Räikkönen in Formula One, or Bayern München in Professional Football) won a match, championship, or anything similar.

Stupid me. (Yeah, I still beat myself up from time to time.)

Because I identified myself with THEIR accomplishments and THEIR failures.

If they won I felt amazing.

But, if they lost, I was crushed. BIG time.

I felt so bad and miserable.

You know this feeling when you just don’t want to live another day?

When you just want to give up because you’re sick & tired of all this shit?

When you’re down & out, depressed, and hate yourself?

Very dangerous.

Especially, if it’s constantly reinforced through bad habits.

Bad habits like placing your self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth on forces beyond your control—on external forces.

That was the EXACT spot I was in.

And that’s the exact spot millions of people are in.

You are not alone. You’re really not alone.

Now, let me clarify one thing (before moving on):

I’m not here to tell you that it’s wrong to be a fan of a group, team, or person.

I have WAY better things to do than that.

Besides, there’s nothing wrong this that.

No problem.

It’s only a problem if it becomes the main focus of your life—like it was for me, just a few years ago.

Anyway, I’m here to share my own mistakes with you, so that you—hopefully—learn from them and don’t need to make them yourself to learn.

Or, as Sam Levenson once said:

You must learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t possibly live long enough to make them all yourself.” ~Sam Levenson

Smart advice.

Now, back to our conversation:

I’m here to help you become AWARE of your habits and to help you start building your self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth in a sustainable, healthy way that’s NOT based on external forces…

…But on the forces you DO control.

Because there’s nothing worse than feeling out of control, powerless.

So, if the only thing you take from today’s post is that you stop identifying yourself 100% with forces you cannot control, and start focusing just a little bit on what YOU could accomplish through your own efforts (internal force) …

…I’m done with a job well done.

Remember: If you don’t build your self-esteem and confidence through your OWN accomplishments (or, way you think of yourself), you will NEVER be in charge of your life. You will remain miserable, depressed, and—yes—lonely.
