Recently I re-read a book about Giving being the most fulfilling and effective path to success.
It’s called “Go-Givers Sell More” by Bob Burg and John David Mann.
But don’t be fooled by the title.
Its focus is on value creation; not on selling stuff in the traditional way.
For me, it’s a self-help book that can improve any person’s life (no matter what profession you’re in); it’s not just another typical sales & marketing book.
Anyway.
In the book, the authors state, “genuinely trustworthy people rarely start a sentence by saying ‘Trust me…’ (…).”
So what does that mean for you and me?
It means that certain words can have a bigger influence than we might expect or think of …
(BTW, if there’s any scientific proof that using the words “Trust me…” lead to higher levels of trust …Can you please let me know?)
…That’s why I keep transcribing every weekly trip of The Highly Inspiring Journey podcast & web tv show. Because I’m looking for that room of improvement—where I’m using words or even complete phrases waaaay to often.
For some, it might seem a waste of time. (Yes, I do know that you can get someone on Fiverr for five bucks to provide transcripts.)
But I say, you can’t outsource the learning curve.
And if you could, you would be dead in the water.
Trust me.
There’s no real shortcut.
However, there’s one exception to the rule (there always is, huh?).
Here it is:
Listen to people who’ve been there done that.
More specifically, Who is doing what you want to do? Who has accomplished the things you want to accomplish in your own life (and you resonate with their approach)? Think about that.
